Dresden - Welcome to the county capital!
Dresden, core of the metropolitan area "Upper Elbvalley", is an important industry location and a centre of microelectronics.
Furthermore, Dresden is a city dedicated to science, having several universities and many research institutes. Dresden also has
the biggest university of central Europe. Dresden is also a crossing point for many supra-regional transport connections with the
important economic and political centres, such as Berlin, Warsaw, Prague, Munich and Leipzig.
The geographic location of Dresden is extremely attractive:
The city is located in the middle of the Dresden Elbe valley widening, imbedded between the foothills of the eastern Erz mountains,
the Lusatian granite plate and the Elbe sandstone mountains. The Elbe flows through the whole city on the longitudinal axis. The level
of the Elbe is confirmed to be 105,70 m above sea level. The highest point of Dresden is located 315 m above mean sea level
(in Dresden-Bühlau), while the lowest point of Dresden is at 102 m above sea level (in Dresden-Stetzsch).
Typical for the weather in the Dresden Elbe valley is the so called "micro climate", which even allows vineyards to exist in the
area.
